Purpose and goal

The conference ´Equality, Growth & Innovation - In theory and practice´ was held in Luleå 9-10 Oct 2013 and fulfilled its purpose to create a systematic exchange of knowledge and experience from research studies, policy programs and R&D projects on socially sustainable innovation and growth between 238 participants from different sectors (academic, private, public, nonprofit) and different regions and countries.

Results and expected effects

As a result of the conference, participants increased their ability and willingness to use their knowledge and experience on social aspects of growth and innovation to further develop research and policy on this field. The conference was first held in Linköping in 2010 and will next be held in Karlstad, 2015. Thus, the conference has established itself as a regular forum for researchers and practitioners to come together to further develop the theoretical and practical contributions for socially conscious community development, growth and innovation.

Approach and implementation

The conference was organized by Luleå University of Technology with financial and organizational support from VINNOVA, Forte, the National Secretariat for Gender Research, and the European Social Fund´s thematic groups for equality and workplace learning. The partnership worked very well. To make the conference relevant to many different actors peer-reviewed paper sessions and keynote lectures was combined with interactive workshops where participants together drew conclusions on how innovation and growth can be created, which was rewarding.
