Important results from the project

The project achieved its goals by demonstrating the potential of Zymatic-C1 and its performance, as well as its connection to circular water use. The pilot tests showed high purification efficiency even under conditions requiring high throughput, providing strong support for the scalability of the technology. By measuring the impact of this using the new standard for circular performance, the project also demonstrates that the technology enables a higher degree of circular water use.

Expected long term effects

The results pave the way for industrial ability to achieve sustainable water use. International standards for both performance measurement and verification strengthen Swedish competitiveness. Zymatic is an innovation with substantial potential for up-scale expected to lead to a "win-win-win" — for Swedish environmental technology, for making a significant contribution to the world’s water challenges, and for highlighting the importance of testing innovations to address sustainability issues.

Approach and implementation

Project was planned as a case study involving two parties (Pharem and Perstorp collaborated on a joint schedule), a research study to test two international standards (RISE supported the case study partners), and a performance requirement for the purification technology, around which the case studies and the research study collaborated. The work was carried out in six work packages and included model setup, case selection, internal and external pilots, tests for reusability and transferability.
