Reference number
Coordinator ALSTOM Power Sweden Aktiebolag - ALSTOM POWER, Växjö
Funding from Vinnova SEK 510 000
Project duration May 2014 - March 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project is to optimize the design and process of the earlier manufactured, (2011-03637), SiC PiN 10 kV/ 2 A diodes, to the specific features and requirements of the application. This is necessary to fully utilize the superior properties of silicon carbide in order to improve the functionality and competitiveness of the product. The optimized design (result of this project) is aimed to be used in the coming fabrication run (no 2) planned for 2015.

Results and expected effects

All goals for the project have been achieved: -Design optimization -Evaluation of operation at high switching frequencies -Publications (two transaction papers, two presentations at conf.) -Planning for production batch, 2015 Expected results from project 1 New project proposal, mars -15, ´Tillverkningsomgång 2, Utvärdering av optimerad design.´ 2 Implementation of SiC HV-diodes in the application.

Approach and implementation

The project execution was structured with simulations and measurements on chip level at Acreo and experimental research on component and system level at Alstom. This structure has worked out well during the project execution. However, a demand for more extensive experimental work was identified during in the later part of the project. These experiments were performed within budget but time schedule had to be adjusted, from Dec 14 to March 15. The outcome of this project is expected to result in a new project proposal for 2015.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
