Important results from the project

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the social pillar of a future cohesive EU and to position Umeå and northern Sweden as well as other social precedent regions. During the meeting, Umeå and other cities presented their work on social sustainability with a focus on continuing to raise the issue higher on the EU agenda. During the meeting, the role of cities as a driving force for social sustainability was discussed, with proximity to residents focusing on collaboration and exchange of experiences.

Expected long term effects

September 16-17 social progress cities summit was conducted. In preparation for the meeting, a declaration was circulated to all notified cities, which were subsequently signed by the cities present and the ICLEI network. To enable additional cities to sign a declaration, a website has been created. Representatives of the European Commission in place highlighted the importance of this type of initiative and the key in showing how cities drive social sustainability issues linked to urban development and after the meeting continued dialogue with EU committees. about the future work
