Reference number
Coordinator ACREO SWEDISH ICT AB - Acreo Swedish ICT AB, Kista
Funding from Vinnova SEK 10 000 000
Project duration September 2012 - August 2014
Status Completed
Venture Challenge-driven innovation - Phase 2 Collaboration

Purpose and goal

The goal and purpose of the project was to identify and develop distributed network solutions for media distribution. The solutions should be robust, scalable, cost efficient and above all energy efficient, without sacrificing the experienced quality. In most cases the results have been fulfilled and also in some cases going beyond what were expected from beginning. The most promising development tracks have been identified and these are: Streamingkollen; NetInf for media distribution; Content demand platform; and Clean Energy Index for media distribution.

Results and expected effects

An important effect that EFRAIM has contributed to include sustainable growth within media distribution. Activities around network architecture and information centric networks combined with the knowledge of demand patterns are assumed to result in more efficient network and services. The results within energy efficiency have shown that considerable savings can be achieved if knowledge about consumption patterns is also considered. The understanding of the quality of experience for adaptive streaming has been brought forward along with business models and standardization.

Approach and implementation

EFRIAM has worked in iterations, where obtained results were presented and the plans for the coming period were decided on. This means that some refocusing has been done during the project as compared to the original plans. In most cases the results have been fulfilled and also in some cases going beyond what were expected from beginning This agile-like working plan gave a flexibility to adjust the work based on obtained understanding. It also involved the partners more and the full day steering group meetings three times a year, involving all project participants, were highly appreciated
