Important results from the project
The project aim was to achieve an efficient production with new or improved technology that could reduces energy consumption, reduces damage to the rock during production and thus increasing the product yield. Various experiments within fuel consumption, automation, process simulations, geophysical methods, communications and safety have shown that there are potential improvement areas that can make the production of Swedish dimensional stone more efficient in various ways.
Expected long term effects
Expected results included more efficient production with higher product yields and products with higher revenue. Enabling a more efficient use of energy as well as a better working environment. individual units of operation have been made more efficient, but in order to quantify improvements in yield or revenue, more efforts are required for the process as a whole. Project implementations have resulted in improved working environment and increased understanding of possible measures that can be used to achieve more efficient processes from an energy and environmental perspective.
Approach and implementation
During the pre-study for this project, a large number of possible activities were identified. The activities were prioritized by area, assessed benefits, risks and feasibility. 7 project areas were defined and different activities were organized in each area as sub-projects. With this broad approach, good foundation was created for identifying potential improvements for the process as a whole. However, with a broad approach it may be difficult to reach certain level of details in every activity.
