Important results from the project

In the long term, the project will contribute to establishing the school meal as part of the schools´ educational work. In 2022, the project explored the design of a school guide. A concept for systematic work has been developed and parts of the method have been tested by teachers and kitchen staff with successful results.

Expected long term effects

Vallentuna municipality has developed material for a school guide. The purpose of the schoolguide is to be a guide in how to use the schoollunch as a tool in the pedagogical work at school. In 2022, the first parts of the school guide was tested with teachers and kitchen staff at two schools, with the aim of arousing motivation and finding a common focus for collaboration around the school meal. The outcome was successful. In addition, lesson material to involve students in the school meal was developed in actual teaching and a prototype for a pedagogical planning tool has been initiated.

Approach and implementation

Linking school meals to the curriculum and also equal and accessible learning, is crucial for success. The principals and schooslstaffs knowledge about the mission of schoollunch is crucial. The school is an excellent test bed, but it is a challenge for municipalities with limited resources to run development projects as both scheduled school staff and central administration are focused on the core mission. The project´s progress and long-term results depend on project manager’s time in order to operate systematically and provide support for school personnel.
