Coordinator RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB - SICS Swedish ICT Västerås AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 517 356
Project duration April 2016 - June 2019
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The objectives of SafeCOP have been achieved and are presented below 1. Develop a safety-assurance framework for CO-CPS. This will create new applications and market segments, successfully addressing societal challenges. 2. Develop a reference “Runtime Manager” architecture to support the engineering and certification of CO-CPS. 3. Extend the current wireless protocols for safe and secure cooperation. 4. Contribute to new standards and regulations. 5. Demonstrate the usefulness of SafeCOP concepts in platooning application.

Expected results and effects

RISE developed new wireless technologies that will increase their integrity (needed for safety functions) and security (for the communication). A new realistic simulator has been developed within the SafeCOP project that can be extended and used in future projects and can make the research and development easier and faster in automotive area. New safe and secure wireless communication protocols have been developed that can accelerate development of platooning applications and leads to reductions in energy consumption and CO2 emissions by commercial vehicles in less than 5 years.

Planned approach and implementation

RISE was part of project coordination team as use case leader for Sweden to ensure the production by each work package is based on the initial plan and collating them to produce the Progress Reports. Weekly meetings together with annual workshops and plenary meetings were also organized to help building collaborations between project partners both in national and international level. RISE had always a representative in these events to present the activities and exchange knowledge with other partners.
