Purpose and goal
We have developed electronic platforms where an iPhone/iPad together with type approved professional microphones and sensors can be used for measurements at a fraction of the cost, combined with easy-to-use apps for many uses. We have enabled the connection of sensors via BNC/TNC, plus the ability to connect a professional microphone to an iPhone 7 and have a high quality audio output. We have taken the full step to volume manufacturing. We have developed apps that can be downloaded from Apple Store: SPL Traffic Light, Dual Traffic Light, TL, Dosimeter, plus Gated Noise RT60 and more.
Expected results and effects
This project have had an international impact and we will participate at SAE NVC in Grand Rapids: Smartphone use for Noise and Vibration Measurements - Applications, Limitations, & Possibilities. We have completed an analysis of which Smart Phones can be used for sound measurements and what can be expected. This is documented in the SAE NVC papers. The products have an international spread and Septon AB is the distributor for the Swedish market. We have also developed "sound handbooks" that are intended for schools, architects, politicians and others. They are also available in English.
Planned approach and implementation
The project was divided into different Work Packages (WP) where the different team members have handled their respective WP. The more industrial apps Gated Noise, RT60 plus TL Transmission Loss have been handled by Olle Markstedt and Thomas Lagö. Apps for schools, concert halls and similar applications have mainly been handled by Lars Berg. Hardware has been handled by Thomas Lagö, Dan Maguire, Andrew Smith plus Audio Control that handled manufacturing. International sales strategies have been handled by Thomas Lagö and Ronnie Johansson. Lagö has been the project coordinator.
