Purpose and goal

The goal was to create a platform where cities can assess their performance in the area of ´smart and sustainable city´, as well as their entrepreneurship-friendliness based on a set of developed KPIs. Consultancy services will be offered to municipalities to create an action plan that improves their position. Clusters of solution providing companies will be be linked to the platform, which helps the municipalities find the best possible partner for future development. The project has shown a proof-of-concept. ABUD, is working on further commercialization of the platform.

Expected results and effects

SmartCEPS is a combination of methods and software for consultants within the area of Smart Cities to implement urban planning with the help of urban data analytics. The software developed includes functionality to collect urban data, analytic engines, a virtual marketplace for projects, and references to perform SmartCEPS consultation. The project´s web part visualizes the Smartness Index and the outcome within eight thematic areas for cities in Europe (with 50,000 to 250,000 inhabitants), as well as the ranking of these cities in terms of the Smartness Index.

Planned approach and implementation

The SmartCEPS project was carried out under coordination by ABUD (Hungary). Other project partners were IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute (Sweden), Essigplan (Germany) and DBH (Hungary). In addition to project management, the following four work packages were included (WP leaders are indicated in brackets); Business Model & Exploitation (DBH), Methodological Development (Essigplan), ICT Development (IVL) and Validation (ABUD). The developed system was validated together with representatives from three case study cities.
