Purpose and goal
To establish a circular bioeconomy, products need to be modified from two perspectives the product design and the use of recovered materials. In this context, the main goal is to develop utilization scenarios for solid industrial residues and recovered wood in high-value structural wall- and floor elements, considering their technical and environmental feasibility and circular use. The hybrid elements will be analyzed and tested with respect to the potential use of recovered wood with the goal of developing a hybrid version of the elements and the added value potential of supply chain
Expected effects and result
The participation of several industry partners from will allow the direct practical implementation and role models for circular hybrid building elements. The evaluation of the environmental effects, taking market shifts into account, supports the identification of potential rebound effects and trade-offs to avoid misleading recommendations. The predictive models for recovered wood will be available for future use and development. The result will be published in journal articles, report, conference presentations, building fairs and seminar and non-scientific journals.
Planned approach and implementation
WP1 coordination and dissemination. WP2, circular design of wall and floor elements using residues and recovered wood. The hybrid elements will be analyzed and tested. WP3 focus on the characterization of mechanical, physical, chemical, and processing properties of solid residues and recovered wood. Data will be combined with the test results to analyze how the ageing and use phase of wood influences the material properties and future use scenarios. WP4 analyze the environmental effects using LCA, calculates utilization potentials and make predictive models.
