Purpose and goal

Three different cases were investigated within the Drive Sweden Policy Lab 2021/22: Highlighting a simpler and more modern tax system for the sharing economy (case 1) and the potential of camera surveillance in public transport with bus and traffic cameras (cases 2 and 3). Within the framework of the project, participating actors have identified and discussed possible obstacles from a policy perspective. Within cases 2 and 3, several use cases were demonstrated in Barkarby/Järfälla municipality with buses in scheduled traffic for data collection and analysis.

Expected results and effects

The policy lab on case 1 increased knowledge about handling the taxation of private car sharing and investigated and concretized the need for development of the tax regulations. The project parties in case 2/3 identified and demonstrated several use cases in Barkarby / Järfälla municipality that can be applied already today and discussed which areas have additional potential. Demonstration of several use cases opened up to get information about possibilities of monitoring and management through camera surveillance in public transport.

Planned approach and implementation

In Drive Sweden Policy Lab 2021/22, opportunities and obstacles regarding camera surveillance in public transport were explored to increase traffic safety for the public and work for better use of data for a more sustainable, efficient and connected society. I Barkarby, we have demonstrated several use cases with buses in an urban environment. The Policy Lab´s work has been disseminated in several final reports, debate articles and presentations. Within case 1, an analysis has also been carried out and a referral to the government´s memorandum on standard deductions.
