Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project is to develop a Distribution Feedbox that connects conventional cable technology with a superconducting link. In the box, more than 30 connections w ill be made in an environment that holds a temperature of 20K (-253 degrees Celsius). The goal of the project is that CERN, Uppsala University and RFR Solutions develop an operationally useful prototype. The final result is a fully developed prototyp that is now under test and validation at Cern. The current planning is to continue with the next prototype and serial production.
Expected results and effects
The project´s expected effects and results are that the development of this high-tech equipment can help enable particle physics basic research at CERN´s LHC, technical research at the FREIA Development Laboratory at Uppsala University and transfer of high technology know-how from CERN to RFR Solutions. The prototype is currently under validation to confirm the expected performance.
Planned approach and implementation
The project was executed 2018-2021 as a three-party collaboration between CERN, Uppsala University and RFR Solutions. CERN will have the main responsibility for design and construction. Uppsala University will carry out a large part of the tests needed to verify the component´s design and performance. RFR Solutions responsibility lies within the disciplines of materials knowledge, production technology and the manufacturing itself. The execution has been conducted in a positive way through the Covid-pandemic and the coming projects are under final planning.
