Important results from the project
The project group agrees that the goals have been met, both technically and in terms of new knowledge and experience. The technical results can be relatively easily implemented and put to use in commercial software. The project has also shown how efficient and flexible preparation can be done, e.g. based on ISO standards, as an extended digital collaboration between a component manufacturer and a tool supplier. A common lesson is that solutions with digital integration are complex, but possible.
Expected long term effects
The project has given each party new knowledge and results that can be developed into products/services, and a common interest for new collaborations. New simulation capabilities can be implemented as new functionality in software such as RD&T and IPS. The industrial partners have a good starting point to develop new customer offerings such as services for process preparation (Sandvik) and repair methods (GKN), as well as an example of how a digitally integrated supply chain can be designed.
Approach and implementation
The project was organized into four technical work packages (WPs), as well as a WP for a model of digitally integrated workflows. Some delays occurred (GKN had a lack of resources for a while, partly due to unplanned absences) and a 6-month extension was approved by Vinnova. Since the technical work was largely carried out in parallel, there were no serious disruptions. The contributions could be merged towards the end of the project. Our conclusion is that the activities were chosen correctly.
