Purpose and goal
The project aims to improve the hot rolling process by using camera surveillance in combination with process simulation. By analyzing the dimensions of the heat, deviations in the product caused by roll wear can be detected. These measured deviations are then used to update simulations that calculate the physical properties of the heat such as e.g. speed and degree of deformation. The goal is to create a cost-effective method for continuous monitoring of the physical properties of heat.
Expected effects and result
The project will deliver a document containing an assessment of different hardware systems and a comparison of how they perform in measuring of the material during ongoing hot rolling. The report will contain which hardware properties are needed for an installation to be met. A project plan for a full-scale project will also be produced. The plan must show how the results from the preliminary study will be included in a full-scale project and then be able to be implemented on a large scale.
Planned approach and implementation
AP1 - Mapping which camera systems could be an alternative to measuring the dimension of the heat during hot rolling. AP2 - Development of calculation methodology where the images created by the camera must be processed so that a physical length measure can be determined. AP3 - Validation of dimensional measurement in a lab environment AP4 - Adaptation of profile change in RollSim AP5 - Simulation of physical properties AP6 - Project management
