Purpose and goal
The project aims to provide an actionable framework for stakeholder engagement, making digital tools a key asset in promoting dialogue, operational stability, and sustainable stakeholder relationships in mining projects. It delivers practical insights, and develop a prototype platform, using the Jokkmokk Iron Mines project as case study. Grounding the study in practice ensures that results are directly applicable and support more sustainable, responsible, and trust-based stakeholder relations.
Expected effects and result
The project contributes to digital participation and design science research by offering evidence-based recommendations for digital platforms that enhance communication, inclusive engagement, and constructive dialogue in industrial sectors. The study reveals practical challenges and operational realities of mining development. Through cooperation among stakeholders, the needs and values of rural and local communities are represented, helping to foster long-term societal trust and resilience.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is carried out in cooperation between Luleå University of Technology, Jokkmokk Iron Mines and Hela Sverige ska leva. It identifies key communication challenges and assess how digital engagement tools can support dialogue in conflict-prone contexts. To address these challenges, it develops value-driven digital platform design suggestions and designs, tests and evaluates a digital platform prototype to facilitate communication and engagement between the mining industry and society.
