Important results from the project

The project has developed a strategic research and innovation agenda for cast components. We have identified six key factors which creates and supports growth and competitiveness. Sustainability and collaboration are key words. Our vision for 2030 is ´Cast products in a sustainable society, for growth and international competitiveness in collaboration!´. The agenda has a solid support from more than 200 organizations who has been deeply involved in the development process of the agenda.

Expected long term effects

The project has developed a strategic research and innovation agenda for cast components. The agenda will be published and disseminated through networks connected to the Swedish Foundry Association, Swerea SWECASTs and Casting Innovation Centre. The project has established consensus for a long-term vision, strategies and goals. The work has also resulted in new business relations and a broad network, for example a stronger partnership with Jernkontoret and Svenskt Aluminum which in turn lead to a research and innovation agenda for metallic materials.

Approach and implementation

More than 200 organizations support the agenda. The agenda has been developed by the Swedish Foundry Association Research council, Swerea SWECAST, Technical University of Jönköping and Casting Innovation Centre, together with strategic partners from industry, academia and research institutes. The process has been open to all interested organisations. The work has been divided into different stages: situation analyses, future analyses and future needs. The work is based on the previous roadmap ´5 Steps to a competitive foundry industry 2006-2012´.
