Important results from the project
RespiHeart has developed a new method for optical measurement of the blood flow in the sternum bone, for more effective monitoring of patient vital signs. The method is based on one sensor module and a tape for sensor application as well as software for signal processing. The project has aimed at developing an IP strategy for RespiHeart. Achieved project objectives are: (1) scoping of company IP (current and potential intellectual assets in the company), (2) prioritized areas based on competitive position, value potentials and realization opportunities.
Expected long term effects
Establishing a strong IP portfolio has been focus for the strategy, that should cover the following areas: (1) patent, (2) design rights, (3) protection of technology, hardware (optical and electronical solution), (4) protection of software for signal processing, (5) positioning of clinical studies and healthcare collaboration projects, (6) product development, following ISO 13-485, for CE marking, (7) positioning of know-how within the area of optical blood flow measurement, through scientific publications, (8) trademark properties.
Approach and implementation
The project, that has been conducted during November 2018 to January 2019, have been a collaboration between RespiHeart and Awa Sweden. Focus tasks have been: (1) identification of ownership issues internal analysis, screening of current and potential intellectual properties, (2) external analysis mapping of actors, technology/products and IP protections, (3) development of an IP strategy definition of value creation through intellectual properties, development needs, crafting of a plan for long-term development as well as short term actions.
