Purpose and goal

The aim of the project has been to give the Fellow tailored training and the necessary networks and tools to become a successful research leader. She has been given training in leadership; in advanced chemical instrumentation and; access to national and international research networks. This is a long-term collaboration between SP/RISE and University of Gothenburg. Dr Dahlström now has several applied research projects within marine and maritime research and is since a few years the coordinator of the Bonus CHANGE project (?3 million) which was made possible through the VinnMer grant.

Expected results and effects

The result of the VinnMer-project (2012-2016) is that Mia Dahlström now has a number of key positions, namely; chair and expert to the EU commission in Bioeconomy under Horizon2020; a member of Formas national reference group on Horizon2020; that she is adjunct associate professor at the University of Gothenburg; that she is the coordinator of a large EU-project and has several maritime research projects. The result is also that Mia now has several national and international research partners and that she has received leadership training and support. All made possible through VinnMer.

Planned approach and implementation

Mia Dahlström planned for her training in close dialogue with her mentors, which she has met with regularly. The mentors were professor Hans Elwing, Dr Monica Axell (Head of Unit SP KM/RISE), Dr Marie Sjöberg (Head of Section SP KM/RISE) and Assoc professor Jukka Lausmaa (Head of Research SP KM/RISE). She has been supported by her Qualifying milieu at the University of Gothenburg (professor Hans Elwing), who has worked with her in her projects, research applications and introduced her to networks. In the mentor group, strategic discussions on Dr Dahlström´s future career have been held.
