Status Completed

Important results from the project

Aim: to increase accessibility, inclusion and participation to cultural heritage and the processes that are linked to how it is planned, designed, managed and used. The aim has been met through in-depth interviews with experts, adaptation and testing in three cultural environments (test beds Visby & Kramfors) of tools for the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. In Spånga-Tensta, a plan proposal has been developed for increased accessibility for people with physical disabilities.

Expected long term effects

The expert interviews show that the heritage accessibility mainly concerns physical adaptation. The tools are easy to use and contribute to a positive experience for the target group, but more tests are needed before conclusions can be drawn regarding the effects. A good visitor experience requires committed staff and a well-prepared target group. A plan proposal has been prepared for physical adaptation of Spånga hamlet, but new conditions make it uncertain if the plan proposal will be used.

Approach and implementation

Introductory workshop. Choice of heritage sites and target groups. Selection and adaptation of tools for increased accessibility for people with intellectual disabilities. Adaptation to Covid-19. Planning of two student projects (approved). Interviews with government experts. Testing of tools in Visby / Kramfors documented via surveys / interviews and qualitatively analysed. Plan proposal for physical adaptation in Spånga hamlet will bested and analysed by the municipality. Final conference 2022.
