Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to make up for the shortcomings in support for cognitive accessibility that currently exist in Swedish and international legislation for digital accessibility. The project has developed measurable and user-centered criteria that can be incorporated into the recognized standards in the field. The requirements are anchored with both users and standardization bodies, and are ready to be used as a basis for legislation. The project has also developed support for those who work with digital interfaces, to use the criteria in their work directly.
Expected long term effects
The expected effects of the project were that Swedish and international standards for digital accessibility would be able to include requirements supporting cognitive accessibility from a broad user perspective. The project has resulted in five measurable criteria that have been thoroughly tested. For each criterion, there is a measurement method supporting the use of the requirements in procurement, development and review of digital interfaces. In addition, a demonstration website has been developed that shows how the requirements can be applied to digital interfaces.
Approach and implementation
The project is based on a broad collaboration between web accessibility experts, representatives of standardization organizations, and website owners in the public and private sector. During the project, we have developed the criteria in an iterative process where we tested the criteria on digital interfaces with authorities and in the school system, together with end users and website owners. Throughout the project, we have also collaborated closely with standardization bodies and policy actors at European and international level.
