Purpose and goal

The goal of the project was threefold. The first objective was to enhance research mobility between countries and between business and academia. Anna Power (AS), therefore moved from the industrial research (Unilever R & D, NL ) to Sweden ( SuMo Biomaterials, Chalmers). The second goal was to build hierarchical soft materials where both the flow of liquid and diffusion of different molecules can be studied as a key issue in SuMo. The third goal was to increase academic qualifications for a strong industrial research leaders (AS).

Results and expected effects

I have been a member of SuMo´s management team since 2012. Working in SuMo´s management team has given me a great understanding of the difference between leadership in academia and industry. It has also helped me to expand my national networks in academia, research institutes as well as industry . When it comes to the second goal, soft hierarchical structures was built using alginate. The work has led to increased academic qualifications (publications and teaching) and several collaborative projects which will continue after the end of this current project.

Approach and implementation

The Vinnmer project and financial contribution has been pivotal for my academic experience. The project has helped me to understand the academic environment and career drivers, which is different from my previous industrial experience. It has given me academic merits such as teaching and increased publication and has definitely increased the number of collaborations. Even better results could be achieved if clarity on career paths and their requirements is given at an early stage and if higher management (at the host university) is involved in the project from the beginning.
