Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The goals of this project were to develop a software tool which supports design of effective strategies for chemical synthesis of protein drugs, and to gain a better understanding of the related market. The project has progressed as planned: A database of relevant methods for chemical protein synthesis was built, and a software prototype was developed performing advanced analysis using a proprietary algorithm. Discussions with consultants and academic researchers have given us valuable knowledge about the current market, additionally resulting in an ongoing collaboration.

Expected results and effects

In its current state the software prototype enables identification of suitable strategies for chemical synthesis of large proteins. A broad scientifically based analysis facilitates a subsequent manual analysis, which does not require any detailed knowledge about any chemical rules. Furthermore, we have identified additional important factors to consider for detailed prioritization of the various solutions. Several proteins have been identified as possible test cases when the software will be tested in practice.

Planned approach and implementation

All major deliverables as initially planned were obtained. Among them is a future proof database which can be continuously updated. The database contains the most important methods for chemical synthesis of proteins. A guiding principle in our work with programming of the software has been to perform this in a way which enables a long term development, therefore quick fixes were disregarded. A software will perish if it is not continuously improved, and we have attempted to adjust to such a requirement already before constructing the different components of this system.
