Project duration November 2017 - December 2018
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The project aimed to map and facilitate coordination of Swedish research within additive manufacturing of metals (metal AM) for rapid industrialization of the area. The coordination was achieved by the maintenance and execution of a well-established roadmap and follow-up of the implementation and its effects. The goal of the project was to increase the coordination of research to contribute to speed up industrialization of metal additive manufacturing.

Expected long term effects

The results will be: - a picture of the current situation for research efforts and resources in the field of metal AM, - increased coordination of future research efforts in accordance with the roadmap and - a proposal on how the impact of implementation can be measured. It is clear that the industrialization of metal AM has started. From 2015 to 2018, the number of companies working with metal AM was tripled, and it is estimated that just over 400 people work with metal AM in the industry. However, the companies that implemented it in production can still be counted on one hand.

Approach and implementation

The project was divided into three work packages: AP1 Mapping of national research efforts and resources within metal AM AP2 Execution of roadmap AP3 Follow the effects of the implementation of the roadmap The work packages are independent of each other and run in parallel during the project. The project worked well through close collaboration and weekly pulse meetings.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
