Important results from the project
The project achieved its objective to conduct research on integrated cellular and LEO satellite networks for vehicle positioning and synchronization. It resulted in a journal article and a successful doctoral dissertation. The results contribute to a greater understanding of how satellite and ground systems can improve positioning in 6G, with relevance for safety-critical applications such as driver assistance systems.
Expected long term effects
The results may eventually contribute to the development of more precise and reliable positioning systems by combining cellular and satellite-based technologies, an important area of 6G. This enables new or improved applications, such as driver assistance and autonomous vehicles. The project has also strengthened expertise in a strategic area with potential to influence future research and innovation.
Approach and implementation
The project largely followed the plan set out from the beginning. The focus was on investigating positioning with practical techniques and models close to real systems. The schedule was adjusted once to accommodate the doctoral student´s schedule and planning for the public defense, but this did not affect the progress of the project. The work continued without major obstacles and the collaboration functioned as intended.
