Cooperative driving at traffic intersections

Reference number
Coordinator CHALMERS TEKNISKA HÖGSKOLA AKTIEBOLAG - Institutionen för signaler och system
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration October 2015 - August 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project goal was to experimental validate algorithms coordinating autonomous vehicles at a traffic intersection. Experiments have been performed at AstaZero, where three autonomous vehicles have successfully negotiated a traffic intersection by communicating over a wireless network. The results have shown resilience to information losses and delays, motivating further research on this topic.

Expected results and effects

The obtained results are expected to further promote the PI´s research and the development of cooperative driving technologies. This will be achieved by presenting the results in conferences and seminars, with the objective of establishing new academic and industrial collaborations and attracting new funding.

Planned approach and implementation

The experiments have been designed by the research staff at the Mechatronics group of the Department of Signals and System of the Chalmers University of Technology. The experiments have been possible thanks to the resources of the Research Vehicle Resource (REVERE) LAB at Chalmers and the collaboration with Halmstad University and other local companies, which have lended part of the used equipment.
