Important results from the project
Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have emerged as one of the most promising new rechargeable battery technologies, with the development of high-performance, low-emission hard carbon (HC) materials being crucial for achieving commercial viability. This project developed an novel approach for the HC production by using induction heating, effectively addressing the challenges of heavy emissions and poor performance commonly associated with traditional HC production techniques.
Expected long term effects
The project successfully synthesized low-carbon footprint, high initial Coulombic Efficiency hard carbon anodes from sawdust, an abundant byproduct of Swedish forestry. These anodes demonstrated good performance in both half-cell and full-cell tests.
Approach and implementation
The work is divided into five Work Packages (WPs). WP1 focuses on management within the project, as well as dissemination to the broader community. WP 2 through 5 are focused on the development, and evaluation of the novel hard carbon synthesis route. Multiple researchers from participating universities are involved, bringing the necessary knowledge and expertise in relevant fields. Companies involved in the project provide the essential materials and technical support.
