Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme for Metallic material

Purpose and goal

The purpose of this project was to try the approach to finance organizations with established SME networks (´Catalysts´) to actively catalyze SMEs participating in the program, with special focus on an open call directed to the program´s Step 1 and Step 2. The goal of the project was to form at least eight consortia with applications in the call and identify typical research and innovation needs of SMEs. 13 consortia were formed by the Catalysts, twelve of which submitted applications, and typical research and innovation needs of SMEs were compiled.

Expected results and effects

The project has improved the understanding of SMEs´ needs and has provided valuable insights on how participation of SME in the program can be increased. The Catalysts have learned from each other´s methods and established new partnerships. Through the project, the program has reached a large number of SMEs. The program´s capability to engage SMEs during the next program period has thereby increased.

Planned approach and implementation

The method to join Catalysts in a project created an effective communication link between the program and a large number of SMEs and created a valuable platform for the Catalysts to learn from each other and collaborate. The catalysts´ support was very likely also crucial for the formation certain consortia. However, as similar consortia were formed without catalyst support, the conclusion that the tested method is generally effective a means to increase the number of approved projects with SME participation within a specific call may not be valid.
