Important results from the project
We achieved the project´s goal, i.e. we created a consortium of collaborators and wrote and submitted a strong application to Pathfinder Open. Several sub-projects were completed, such as pilot animal experiments, which then form the basis in the larger Pathfinder Open application. Experiences include: the consortium should be limited in size and it is of great value to hire experts in the various parts of the application process. In our case, for example, Gothia Forum has been invaluable.
Expected long term effects
The contacts created in a well-functioning consortium can be used for continued collaborations in future research projects. Should the large Pathfinder application result in funding, we will have a functioning consortium; should it not be funded, we can still utilize the network. An obvious new experience is understanding the value of real experts on EU-applications. Both the collaboration with Gothia Forum internally and with the consulting firm Catalyze externally was extremely rewarding.
Approach and implementation
The plan was followed in full. The main actual writing work was carried out by APTAB staff. Regular on-line meetings provided feedback on an increasingly refined proposal for the Pathfinder application. When the draft was as good as we could manage internally in the consortium, the consulting firm Catalyze was involved and further processed the draft. The project included conducting pilot experiments in animal models, and this was carried out and included in the final Pathfinder application.
