Important results from the project
The aim of the study was to achieve more sustainable travel by demonstrating and evaluating a new service that combine mobility for business trips. Another purpose was to investigate how business trips, including online meetings (i.e. virtual meetings that take place at a distance) are carried out in organizations and factors determining modal choice. The group that used the app felt that it was less cumbersome to travel by bus compared to their answers in the before study. An app must well integrated into existing routines and systems.
Expected long term effects
The interview study showed that generally they were satisfied and could see the benefits of using a travel app. Those less satisfied argued that its use was unsatisfactory. The survey showed that even if the participants were satisfied, it was not used on a regular basis, and mostly for regional journeys. This could be because they had their own travel card and agreements with a travel agent. This was also supported by the process evaluation which showed that the introduction of the app was more difficult than expected, which many times was due to the organisation having their own solutions.
Approach and implementation
The study included a process evaluation, an interview study and a survey. The process evaluation describes how the work on developing a travel app and its launch, was carried out. The interview study is based on interviews and focus groups with 38 persons. The survey consists of a before and after study. The survey in the before-study was answered by 223 people and the after-study, which was only sent to those who had access to the travel app, was answered by 77 people, of whom 35 people had also used the app.
