Important results from the project
The purpose was to perform tests with automated and cooperative vehicles on a restricted area. The tests were a preparation for upcoming GCDC 2016 and also for the mandatory safety-tests at IDIADA in Spain. The tests financed by this project were a part of the CoAct project financed by SAFER & TRV. Some teams had received their vehicles at a very late stage and had not had time to fully prepare. The tests therefore could be performed only partially.
Expected long term effects
The hard work at AZ made the teams increase their efforts to succeed in the upcoming IDIADA tests and in preparation for GCDC. This resulted in victory at GCDC for the Halmstad team, third place for KTH and fourth to Chalmers. Hence the target for CoAct - to put Sweden on the map for cooperative automation has succeeded. The results will be presented at SAFER and TRV after the holidays.
Approach and implementation
The tests at AZ were planned to perform the 3 scenarios planned for GCDC. 1) Platoon Merge for two parallell platoons before upcoming roadwork in one of the lanes. 2) Cooperative Intersection where vehicles on a busy road negotiate passage for a vehicle from a side road 3) Demonstration of the use of vehicle collaboration to allow passage for an emergency vehicle coming from the rear
