Project duration December 2019 - September 2020
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The feasibility of conversion of CO2 emitted from waste incinerators to value-added products such as carbohydrates and/or their precursors via a combined photo-and thermo- catalytic route has been studied. The investigated conversion of CO2 to carbohydrates could offer a new way of producing sustainable edible products from waste while mitigating the climate change. This could pave the way for the development of sustainable technologies for production of chemicals productions from CO2, reforming the Swedish industry.

Expected long term effects

Albeit promising results for CO2 utilization have been obtained from the project, there are several aspects that require further development and improvement. Therefore, project outcomes can act as an initiator for technology development, engineering advancements, o both conversion and separation processes. This not only will benefit the scientific research and development of Swedish academia but also strengthen the sustainable character and competitiveness of the Swedish industry and thus benefiting the society in general.

Approach and implementation

The results and conclusions of the project will be disseminated to raise awareness and inform industry and society about the potential of the process. Results have already attracted the interest of companies working on solar energy. We are working in close collaboration for formulating new development projects that can lead to industrial process/product.
