Purpose and goal

The purpose was to create a basis for a tool that visualizes a complex situation including many actors, different IT systems and care initiatives. The tools purpose is to enable the patient to own and maneuver the sick leave. The result is positive, it is clearly confirmed there is need to visualize and support the patient in such a process. Our ambition is to further develop a work model and an IT tool that can support the patient and also support the care provider so that they can be more efficient and more patient-focused in their work.

Expected results and effects

We have created a first idea for a tool whose purpose is to visualize, support and thus enable the patient to plan and own his journey through sick leave. We have been confirmed by patients and health care providers, that there is a need for a tool to support both patients and care givers involved. We estimate that an IT tool that visualizes and supports the individual can have positive effects on the sick leave journey for the individual and for healthcare professionals. We intend to proceed and search for new funding to the project.

Planned approach and implementation

Part of the time has been spent on mapping a journey thru sick leave according to different type personas. We have used the IT-tool which we have decided as the starting point to build the new tool from. This has given us lessons and has also been a good guide for the follow up interviews with users, both patients and rehab coordinators which aim was to understand their experiences and journeys. The market analysis give us a picture of the current situation and possible competition. We have also begun to reflect on privacy issues as well as obstacles, risks and opportunities in such a tool.
