Important results from the project
The project has developed, market adapted and implemented our idea regarding reuse of Swedish facade bricks. We have been able to confirm that brick as a building material is one of the best suited for reuse with great potential. We have effectively solved the previous threshold of being able to in large-scale clean bricks that have been built with cement-rich mortar. We have thus succeeded in moving from the development phase of our unique cleasning method to a scaled-up business model with both a collection system, large-scale production and a broad marketing approach.
Expected long term effects
The project has establised solutions to the critical points that previously were thresholds for making facade bricks circular. We now have a collection system, a large-scale production facility and identified and created active marketing solutions to sell the product. Thanks to this, we can now, based in facts, show the market the positive effects the product has both in terms of climate impact, working environment and virgin resource extraction. We have gone from development phase and pilot project to a functioning business model from collection of demolition bricks to sales.
Approach and implementation
The project has three main areas. Collection: Here we have analyzed and developed a workable arrangement with financial incentives and support for the market that facilitates the dismantling of the demolition brick so that reuse is possible. Reuse production: We have built a prototype plant with associated quality routines and documentation and can today also provide material guarantees. Marketing and communication: We have built a broad cross-sectoral network both regionally and nationally where our target group is located, and we have created functional sales support.
