Purpose and goal

The purpose that students who use the training program to improve their working memory capacity, will be indicated in late December, early January. The pedagogical idea is that teachers can use Chess Memo to individual students who need additional working memory training. Chess Memo must be an inclusive and motivating game for children and adolescents. With the game as motivation has Chess Memo potential to develop children´s working memory, increase self-confidence, and not least improve their social relationships and status in the school.

Results and expected effects

The ability of concentration and working memory is more or less the same thing, improved working memory ability is especially welcome of groups with students who have ADHD and similar diagnoses. The big challenge is how to get students involved in working memory training to complete exercise that during five weeks to get students to undertake training. To make Chess Memo more attractive, student learn how to play chess. Something considered intellectually and clever, everyone can play chess without any exclusionary factors such as physics or culture.

Approach and implementation

Now in retrospect we are happy with the planing, especially the work with game-developer Hello There. Initially it was thought that sixth-graders from Balingsnässkolan in Stockholm would implement the training in the study. But after the first test of Chess Memo, we noticed that the game was better suited for younger children. Therefore, we included Tyresö Montessori School grade 1-3 and resource school Kunskapsskolan Hägerstensåsen grade 6-9, children with neuropsychiatric disorders. During the project a regulary study was made that concludes with a summary of the results.
