Important results from the project
The level of knowledge of rural roads, private roads and village streetshas been raised. Funds have been allocated in the County Transport Plan for local development and cycle paths. Community associations, sports clubs and school children in Lagan and Väckelsång developed proposals for increased active mobility and these were prioritized, designed and implemented. 350 testcyclists in 10 smaller communities switched from cars to bicycles and contributed knowledge about bicycle infrastructure.
Expected long term effects
The new knowledge will lead to more cycling infrastructure being built in the county. The pilots demonstrated a method for creating attractive living environments that are well-designed and accessible to everyone. This service design method is scaled up through new projects. By giving schoolchildren in Lagan and Väckelsång experience of democracy and their opportunity to influence their community, we are strengthening our society in the long term and building trust in our constitution.
Approach and implementation
The activities were right, but we extended the time for the testcycling so that as many people as possible could participate. The Lagan and Väckelsång pilots took longer to complete than planned, as the painting could not be done in the winter and the activities were based on people´s voluntary commitment and time. We were surprised and happy about the great gratitude for the project and the many initiatives from the local villagers. The project was kept within overall budget and time frame.
