Central online booking system for car inspection

Reference number
Coordinator TIDLER AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration May 2016 - December 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The interest in car inspection is low as is brand awareness for car inspection companies. Thereby, to a large extent consumers have little knowledge regarding when and where the car should undergo car inspection. In addition, consumers and car inspection companies suffer from uneven distribution of customer volumes. Therefore, Tidler has developed a service simplifying booking of car inspection times for the consumer and which enables flexible pricing to even out the distribution of customers.

Expected results and effects

After being granted the Vinnova subsidy two developers were hired to build a beta version of the booking service for car inspection time slots, which was launched in January 2017. During the spring 2017 a well renowned IT-developing agency with extensive experience in developing booking systems was hired to continue developing our booking system. Development has taken longer than anticipated, however the service has proven itself given a conversion rate much higher than expected and given the large number of bookings that has been made through the website.

Planned approach and implementation

The decision to first develop a beta with full functionality towards the consumer, however with a very simple backend system, enabled faster deployment to the market and testability of the product. This proved to be wise given that we then could build the booking system based on actual data points instead of hypotheses. The project has taken longer than originally anticipated given our first developers only worked part time and given an extended scope of the beta relative the original plan.
