Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The outcome of this collaborative project is a marketable package consisting of a bioprinter, Nanocellulose bioink - CELLINK and software to control motion of bioprinter. This package is offered to academic institutions, R&D departments at Hospitals and to the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. It offers unique possibilities to reproducible biofabricate exact copies of 3D human soft tissues such as cartilage and skin. Chalmers was able to create during this project a new 3D Bioprinting Center which acts as a core facility for Sahlgrenska Hospital and Chalmers.

Results and expected effects

The result of this project is entry level complete package consisted of 3D Bioprinting products and services available for laboratories, universities and academia. The new developed Nanocellulose bioink has great potential to be used for future bioprinting of human cartilage and skin. The usage of the particularly human skin models should be extended towards drug delivery, and all vendors of chemical compounds which are currently using animals to test their products.

Approach and implementation

Project has started with creation of requirements specification for the future products. Based on the detailed requirements we planned the project phases and the milestones for the work-packages deliveries. We have described detailed content of the work packages and develop delivery plan. During the milestones review all 4 partners have possibility to get insight in to each other´s work and align with the plan. All 4 partners has been working autonomously, however the overall alignment through the review gates and milestones secured alignment with overall projects goals.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
