Important results from the project
The project has both generated a future prototype for station environments and developed the capacity for cross-sectoral foresight work and citizen dialogue. The goal of the future prototype was to show an attractive and accessible station environment. Through dialogue with residents it became clear that every resident carries more visions of the future, and we chose to present different types of future scenarios in the prototype in order to spark curiosity and encourage continued conversations.
Expected long term effects
The foresight methods can be used by municipalities in new projects. Continued cross-sectoral collaboration can enable the early involvement of art and culture in planning processes, as well as the continued use of methods such as foresight and citizen dialogue — which in the long term strengthens democracy in urban development processes. The project has also generated insights and methods for working with place identity and place qualities in planning.
Approach and implementation
The project has brought together municipalities, the region, foresight experts an creators to create visions of sustainable station environments for 2040. The work has been based around Nol Station in Ale, where young and older residents have been involved in conversations about Nol’s past, present, and future. A film about the process and a report based on interviews with participants have been produced. Marit Kapla, author, wrote the poem “23 voices about Nol” based on interviews.
