Purpose and goal

The BRIGHTER project aims to pave the way towards establishing a national and international leading cluster for research and innovation on AI-driven, autonomous and sustainable systems. The long-term goal is to build an arena where academia, industry and the public sector together develop knowledge, testbeds and applications that strengthen Sweden´s capacity within AI-based (cyber-physical) autonomous systems, data-driven innovation and sustainable societal development.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to result in a common research and innovation agenda, an established consortium with international collaborations, and a vision and roadmap that shows how a cluster can contribute to sustainable development and competitiveness. In the longer term, BRIGHTER will contribute to strengthened Swedish skills supply, increased innovative capacity in industry and better policy basis for AI-driven transformation of society.

Planned approach and implementation

The feasibility study is organized into work packages that address scientific in-depth research, testbeds, innovation and collaboration structures, regulatory frameworks, and international positioning. The work is led by KTH in close collaboration with universities, industry partners, and societal actors. Through workshops, analyses, and pilot initiatives, a concrete proposal for a full-scale effort is being built that will be launched as a Swedish Cluster of Excellence proposal in 2026.
