Venture Cluster of Excellence for Cutting-Edge Technologies - calls for proposals
Call Visions for world-leading research and innovation in strategic technology areas

Purpose and goal

The project BioAnalytical Cluster of Excellence (BACE) aims to establish Sweden as a global leader in bioanalytics, with a particular focus on preanalytics - the critical phase from sample collection to molecular analysis. By uniting expertise from academia, research institutes, industry, authorities and healthcare, BACE will develop, validate, and standardize workflows that ensure sample integrity, reproducibility, and biological relevance across multiple omics fields.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to result in an established national platform and strategy for a Bioanalytical Cluster of Excellence. BACE will deliver validated and standardized preanalytical workflows, strengthen collaboration between stakeholders, create new innovation opportunities, and position Sweden as a global leader in bioanalytics, enhancing competitiveness, attracting investments, and generating societal benefits.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be carried out as a planning phase to establish BACE. Work is organized into five work packages covering project management, stakeholder engagement, capability mapping, development of the vision and strategic roadmap, and communication and exploitation. The outcome will be a consolidated plan, governance model and prepared initiatives for the next implementation phase of the cluster.
