Purpose and goal
The BioComposites-transport project w ill focus on the development of compression moulded parts made from advanced sheet molded compounds (aSMC). The goal is to substitute more than 70 % of the aSMC w ith bio-based alternatives. As a demonstrator the project will work on the development of a latera control arm for cars. In addition to resin development the Project aims to substitute parts of the carbon fiber content w ith cellulose fibers or fibrils
Expected results and effects
Several advantageous effects of a successfully implemented Project are expected: A biobased aSMC concept has been shown to work in a demanding application, opening up for new lines of business. The Composite industry in Sweden will have a unique material solution answering to new demands and regulations. The concept of a circular economy has been implemented in the Project and new ways to reuse and recycle should be available.
Planned approach and implementation
The BioComposites - Transport Project will follow a Project plan that focus on research and development during the first half of the Project while the second half will focus on the production of demonstrators. The Project have a very well balanced consortium, including an engineering and consulting Company, AFConsulting that will ensure a proffessional approach in design and implemenation of the demonstrator. Already in the Project plan a substantial amount of Resources has been set aside for dissimination activities in order to realize expected impact.
