Project duration August 2018 - July 2019
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of BibCap II has been to further develop the bibliometric analyses that are performed at the KTH-library (KTHB), as well as deliver strategic decision support that can serve both KTH and Vinnova. Much focus has been on comparative analyses between countries and organizations, where they are analysed based on detailed subject areas, but also the co-publication networks of certain companies. One goal has also been to create stronger connections to other bibliometric environments, to exchange methods and data sources.

Expected results and effects

The project has led to analyses at several levels, and new routines to compile data. This includes summaries of the position of HEIs in strategically important research areas, the dynamics of co-publication networks of companies across time, as well as analyses of how subject profiles of technical universities differ. Work to make bibliometric data more available has also continued, but has not come as far as planned. Collaboration with another Vinnova-financed project (MUM) has been investigated, and will lead to a new position to join disparate perspectives on research evaluation.

Planned approach and implementation

BibCap II has been realized in collaboration between the bibliometric group at KTHB, strategical persons at KTH, and Vinnova, where all partners contributed to the steering group. The practical bibliometric work was mainly conducted at KTHB, together with analysts at Vinnova, but focal areas has come from both Vinnova and KTH. Some subprojects were carried out during the entire project duration, while certain deliverables were targeted towards subjects that surfaced during the project. The KTHB bibliometric group also participated at the STI-conference held at CWTS in Leiden.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
