Important results from the project
The project has largely achieved the set goals. Container transport with HCT was increased by 30%, more would have been possible if a dry port could have been established. 10% lower cost per container with A-double and in many cases over 30% lower energy consumption. Tests have been carried out with electric semi-trailers, driver support systems, driver simulators, safety for cyclists and new regulations for long vehicles. Collection of data on tires, particles, analysis of driver behavior etc.
Expected long term effects
Knowledge can greatly reduce energy consumption and reduce congestion. There are several challenges for electric vehicles as costs and availability of charging. Insights into complexity (infrastructure, storage of full containers, opening of road networks, etc.), as input to strategies. Working hours, wages, driver support systems and simulators to manage the shortage of truck drivers. Safer driving, better interaction with other road users. Basis for research on the environment and health.
Approach and implementation
The project was as a large case study with several project partners, test vehicles and related research areas. The activity plan has been largely followed, except for the establishment of the dry port (due to new railway planning). Activities were added as the case provided a good basis for research. The project was extended as some parts took longer time than planned. Very good cooperation in the project, all partners and the steering group both contributed to and gained a lot from the project.
