Call Strengthening Swedish aerospace research and innovation through international collaboration - 2026

Purpose and goal

The project aims to utilize epoxy-based compounds containing aligned nanostructured materials, developed in e.g. the Vinnova project 2023-03650 and Vinnova 2021-04042, to create composite structures with embedded piezoresistive sensors and enhanced out-of plane thermal conductivity in composite laminates, see figure 1. The objective is to evaluate non-intrusive sensing capabilities directly into composite structures for use in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM).

Expected effects and result

The project results will be used for strengthening the road map to applications of multifunctional composite structures that can be used in future air platforms. This will strengthen competitiveness for the Swedish aircraft industry and will improve the possibilities to participate in future international demonstrator programs. The project results will also be used in future education of aerospace engineers at both Swedish and Brazilian universities.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be divided into following work packages (WP): WP1 Project management WP2 Field-engineered nanostructured films WP3 Embedment of resin films with nanostructured filaments into composite structures WP4 Evaluation of sensing abilities and thermal conductivity
