Project duration August 2012 - April 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The goal of the project Agenda Biorefinery was to build a network of partners with interest in the biorefinery-concept, and to write a research and innovation agenda that describes the strategic investments that Sweden needs to make to be competitive in the new bioeconomy. The project has resulted in a written agenda with the title: Biorefineries for a green Sweden: a strategic research and innovation agenda for the development of interprofessional biorefinery concept, and the initiation of a network of triple helix partners.

Results and expected effects

The agenda identifies five important areas for investment around the biorefinery-concept: meet, cooperate, develop tools, develop systems expertise and development of long-term skills. As a first step, a national communication platform is suggested to be built around the biorefinery concept. By the identification of idustrial needs, facilitate meetings between performers, build networks and exchange knowledge between academy, institutes and industri, we will lay the foundation for the construction of a competitive biorefinery industry in Sweden.

Approach and implementation

The project has been led by a shared project management between Lund University and SP Energy, and has been very fruitful. The number of stakeholders has been large and had a good distribution among academy, institute and industry. Besides the stakeholders that initially supported the initiative, a number of additional partners with a interest in the area have joined. The steering group has been active and contributed to the writing of the agenda and given input in specifics. The three workshops with active discussinos in smaller and larger groups has given good input to the agenda.
