Purpose and goal

AGERA brings together eight Swedish universities with the common goal of strengthening our contributions to the Agenda 2030 framework and the Sustainable Development Goals. Collaboration within the academia as well as between academia and society at large will be the key to tackle the sustainability challenges faced by society today. By developing our understanding and skills of how our operations in research, education and utilization impacts the Sustainable Development Goals enables us to identify needs for new collaborations.

Expected results and effects

There is no one size fits all when it comes to how universities may use Agenda 2030 and the SDGs as a framework for collaboration. In the AGERA project we have developed a platform to share our experiences and best practices. We have developed a tool to assess impacts from our collaboration activities on the SDGs. Through the tool we have learnt how to identify needs for new collaboration to further strengthen our contributions to the Agenda 2030. Moving forward, the platform and the tool will help to enhance our capacity for collaboration towards a sustainable development.

Planned approach and implementation

Our first step was to test a tool for assessing impact from collaboration activities on the SDGs. That experience was used in the further development of the tool as well as provided a common ground to how Agenda 2030 may be used as a framework for collaboration. Therefrom we could move from a case study focus to discuss on a general level how universities within its operations may strengthen contributions to Agenda 2030 through collaboration. Our joint learning and shared insights are now basis for continued developments at our respective organizations.
