Purpose and goal
Epigenetics, crucial for understanding disease, aging, and environmental effects, relies on advanced data science methods like AI to unlock its full potential. The initiative proposes a national Centre for AI-driven epigenetics, built on Linköping’s broad expertise in epigenetics and AI. With Sweden’s biobank resources and advanced data infrastructure, the Centre will be well-positioned to lead development of secure, cutting-edge applications.
Expected effects and result
Combining Linköping’s local cutting-edge expertise in AI and epigenetics with Sweden’s biobank data enables the Centre to develop secure, world-leading diagnostic tools for healthcare, forensics, and lifestyle. Harnessing Sweden’s data infrastructure, it will enable real-time applications, foster innovation, and drive new products and start-ups—strengthening Sweden’s global position in epigenetics, data science, and healthcare.
Planned approach and implementation
The project will establish a governance structure and framework agreement, as well as map user needs and possible collaborations. An important part is to plan strategies for development of new, relevant AI tools. Plans will also be made for a future physical center, for educational programs, further international collaborations made and market analyses conducted to guide the center´s development. The goal is to bring together actors in the fields of co-creation, innovation and future funding.
