Purpose and goal
The planning grant will support the development of a Horizon Europe IA-application (Batt4EU) for sustainable, cost-effective batteries with circular and energy-efficient processes. Project ADVANCE combines Li and Mn-rich HLM cathodes, Si graphite anodes and scalable low-energy processes (semi-dry coating, advanced drying, AI-optimised cell formation) with a design for disassembly and direct recycling. The goal is a strong EU proposal that strengthens Sweden´s role in the battery value chain.
Expected effects and result
The project results in a competitive Horizon Europe IA-application that addresses sustainable, cost-effective batteries with circular and energy-efficient processes. The effect will be strengthened Swedish industrial and academic participation in a large European consortium, increased research competence and a clear positioning of Sweden in the European battery value chain, which contributes to climate goals and future industrial growth.
Planned approach and implementation
The project will further develop the ADVANCE concept by integrating HLM cathodes with Si graphite anodes via scalable low-energy processes such as semi-dry extrusion, microwave drying and AI-optimized cell formation. Circular design for disassembly and direct recycling will be included. Among the Swedish participants, Uppsala University and Percyroc are participating in the consortium. Proposal is quality assured with an experienced EU consultant for submission in January 2026.
