Call Medtech4Health: Implementation of medical technology in healthcare in 2024

Purpose and goal

At the Psychiatric clinic in Linköping, we are developing a Medical Event Monitoring System (MEMS) to improve adherence to psychiatric medications. With a sensor and software, medication intake is recorded, and the data is shared between healthcare staff and patients via a web app. The goal is a scalable, reliable solution that works with all medications and packaging types. By detecting early signs of deterioration, we enable faster and preventive care interventions.

Expected effects and result

By using the MEMS system, we expect to improve adherence to drug treatment in psychiatry and early detection of deterioration. This can lead to fewer acute conditions and a reduced need for involuntary care, which reduces suffering and sick leave related to mental illness. Healthcare is given the opportunity to prioritize resources where they are most needed, which leads to cost savings. The solution can also be applied in other medical fields.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has three stages. First, clinical implementation where we expand the MEMS system within the Psychiatrc clinic and at the same time initiate collaboration with other units. Then software development with improved interface and algorithms to detect deviations. Finally, we are developing a new sensor with direct connection to the mobile network. At the same time, we work with regulatory eligibility requirements for CE marking and GDPR.
